Fishermen subjected to harassmentFisherman injured in SL Navy attack in BatticaloaK Kovinthan (32) was injured in a Sri Lankan Navy attack on fishermen in Eravur, Punnaikuda in Batticaloa on 28 March at 8:30 am. When the fishermen were fishing in Punnaikuda sea area, the Sri Lankan Navy opened fire on them. Other fishermen escaped injuries. Following the incident, the Sri Lankan Army and police interrogated all of the fishermen at the shore.
Fisherman arbitrarily detained by Sri Lankan Navy in Palaithivu Anthonipillai Thomas (33) was arbitrarily detained by Sri Lankan Navy on 14 March when he was fishing in the Palaithivu sea. His wife, Laskshmi (35), complained to Mannar Human Rights Commission regarding the detention of her husband. He has not yet been released. 31 March 2006
