SLA shelling causes displacement, destruction of civilian homes
Since 1 July, the Sri Lankan Army (SLA) has fired artillery shells into LTTE-held Mutur East and Sampoor areas on at least 16 different occasions, which is nearly daily shelling. Since the beginning of July 3,580 civilians have displaced from Kaddiparichchan, Sampoor and Mutur East areas to Eachchilampattu, Verukal.
These attacks have injured some civilians and destroyed or damaged Tamil civilians’ homes and offices. Due to the displacement many civilians have escaped the SLA shelling, but their property and homes have been damaged. The damages leave them little to return to after taking refuge in schools and churches. The SLA artillery shelling comes from the SLA Kaddaiparichchan camp, Monkey bridge camp and Selvanakar camp.
