Attacks and Maveerar commemoration in Tamil homeland continue
The three day long Maveerar commemoration began on 25 November in the Tamil homeland.
Several attacks throughout the Tamil homeland are reported during this commemorative period. The attacks began with aerial bombing in Kilinochchi on 25 November morning. People in Kilinochchi have fresh memories of bombing just three weeks earlier. Students began running out of classrooms as the bombers continued to dive five times to drop bombs.
Decorations in the Maveerar cemeteries located in Kopay, Udupiddy and Kodikamam in Jaffna were destroyed. Decorative arches erected in the Jaffna University Campus were destroyed by Sri Lankan military that arrived in large military vehicles. Similar destruction of decorations erected in many parts of the occupied Tamil homeland by people to commemorate the Maveerar day was carried out by the military. On 26 November, Sri Lankan military moved from its Thandiyaddi camp in Amparai and attempted to move towards the Maveerar cemetery in Thangavelayuthapuram. One civilian who saw their secret move was shot and killed. Clashes broke out between the LTTE and the Sri Lankan military which was repulsed back.
