Black Tiger Day commemorations throughout NorthEast
Black Tiger Day commemorations were held throughout the NorthEast on 5 July to honour all the Black Tigers who have given their lives for the Tamil homeland. The first Black Tiger, Captain Miller, sacrificed his life on 5 July 1987 in Jaffna, which was marked as Black Tiger Day.
Tamil Eelam National Leader, Vellupillai Prabaharan, honoured Black Tigers at a special location in Vanni where he paid his respects before LTTE senior members and Black Tiger members. Several other Black Tiger Day commemorations were held in all eight NorthEast districts and also celebrated by Tamil Diaspora overseas. To date 273 Black Tigers have given their lives as weapons in war.
