SLA shells Trincomalee village, civilian injured
The Sri Lankan Army (SLA) fired artillery shells toward Ganeshapuram in Muttur East of Trincomalee district on Saturday, 8 April around 8:30 am. Sellathambi Balasubramaniam (52) from Kadatkaraichchenai, a neighboring village was injured in the SLA attack and several other civilians reported damage to their homes.
This attack is the latest in a string of unprovoked SLA shelling since the February Geneva talks. Tension is already high in the area, following the murder of Tamil activist V Vigneswaran on Friday morning near Trincomalee Harbour. Trincomalee district LTTE Political Head, S Elilan, when citing the ceasefire violation to SLMM stated that the “barbaric and inhumane attack” took place along Ganeshapuram Road, which is busy with villagers traveling.
