
Sri Lankan Navy slaughters nine people from one home
Sri Lanka Navy personnel stationed in the islets off Jaffna coast surrounded a civilian home in Allaipiddy, Jaffna on the night of Saturday 13 May, and opened fire on all occupants. Nine people were killed and three were taken to hospital with injuries. Among the dead was one child.
Father and daughter shot in another Jaffna islet, Velanai Paramilitary gunmen entered the home of P Sunderalingam (54) and his daughter S Jeyaranee (29) in Mankumban in Jaffna on the night of Saturday 13 May and shot and seriously injured both. On 14 May 2006, two civilians Jeyachandran and Mathuran was shot and killed in Periyapaalam Bridge in Trincomalee by a paramilitary group. On 12 May SLA and its paramilitaries killed the following civilians: Balakumar (17) was shot and killed on Church Road in Muttur Town, Trincomalee;
Surendran (Surya) (22) was shot and killed in Muttur Town, Trincomalee;
Muththuvelu Palithas (75) was shot and killed in Kalviyankady, Jaffna;
Rasan Santhakumar (26) was shot and killed in Karainagar, Jaffna;
Sinnathurai Sivagnanam (47) was shot and killed in Atchchuveli, Jaffna;
On 12 May SLA abducted the following civilians: Sriharan Rajakajan (25), Tharmagurusingam Gurukaran and four other civilians were all abducted around Kalladdy Junction in Chavakachcheri, Jaffna; Vijeyalakshman (27) was abducted in Batticaloa; Arulchelvan Arulraj (25) was shot and seriously injured in Valachenai, Batticaloa. Sri Lankan Navy imposes fishing ban affecting 7000 families from 19 villages Sri Lankan Navy imposed fishing ban in the northern coast off Jaffna affecting the livelihood of 7000 families from 19 villages. Given the already depressed income of these fisher families this ban will take them to the point of starvation.
