
Violence against civilians continues in Northeast
Killed Jaffna
Two civilians were shot and killed in Kaithady. Sithampari Kanesaratnam(46), a Saloon owner at Kaithady junction and his assistant Vishvar Krishnan(53) from Navatkuly east were shot and killed when they were returning home from their work on 16th January.
 This incident took place near Kaithady bridge. It is worth noting that there are SLA sentry points at Kaithady bridge and this killing could not have occurred without the knowledge of, and aiding and abetting by the SLA. K. Murugan(35), father of 3 children from Navatkuly was shot and killed by gunmen on motorbike while he was working at a Koththu Rotty shop in Urumpirai. Namasivayam Muralitharan(26) from Alvai was shot dead when he was traveling in a motorbike with his brother at Raja veethy in Kopay. Killed in Trincomalee Two civilians were killed by the Sri Lankan Navy (SLN) gunfire after the Claymore attack in Uppuveli, Trincomalee on 17th January. The civilians were identified as Sellathurai Selvarajah (23), a mason and from Selvanayagapuram. The other victim is around 60 years old was also from Selvanayagapuram. His relatives did not come to take the victims because there was a SLA search operation in Selvanayagapuram after the incident. Injured in Trincomalee Immediately after the explosion of a claymore mine in Uppuveli in Trincomalee on 17th January, SLN started a revenge attack and opened fire on the civilians who happened to be traveling. Six civilians were injured. 
Thevatharsan(25), working in a shop was injured when grenade was thrown into the shop. The shop was damaged. This shop was located near the Trincomalee police head office. Thevatharsan is being treated in Kandy hospital in critical condition.
