Military attacks shop owners who protested the murder of TNA MP Raviraj
Sri Lankan military attacked businessmen in Kokuvil who participated in the protest against the killing of MP Raviraj. The businessmen protested by hanging black flags in front of their shops and by shutting down their shops for two days during the MP's funeral in Jaffna.
Jaffna news on 17 November Military attacks shop owners who protested the murder of TNA MP Raviraj Sri Lankan military attacked businessmen in Kokuvil who participated in the protest against the killing of MP Raviraj. The businessmen protested by hanging black flags in front of their shops and by shutting down their shops for two days during the MP's funeral in Jaffna. When the shop owners opened their shops yesterday morning as usual, Sri Lankan military took them to their camp and severely beat them. Sri Lankan military also went to the houses of businessmen in Mallakam and Thellipalai areas and threatened them to open their shops at gun point. Food items sent by post to Jaffna is in unusable condition Food items sent by post to Jaffna in ships are arriving in unusable condition soaked in sea water and rotten. The food items brought to Postal head office in Jaffna, could not be delivered since the addresses on the parcels have been totally damaged due to exposure to sea water. Officials from the postal department are facing difficulties in delivering the parcels. Friends and relatives from out side Jaffna have been sending food items to their loved ones in the Jaffna. But these food items sent by ship are arriving in unusable condition. People are questioning why the postal parcels are being damaged while the food taken by ship by the military is arriving in good condition. People also express the view that if postal parcels cannot be delivered in good condition then they should publicly state this thus avoid wastage of people's time and money.
