
School principals appeal to SLMM for children’s education
Seventeen school principals in the LTTE area of Trincomalee signed a letter to the SLMM appealing to them to bring an end to the frequent sustained SLA shelling into these areas. They have said that school children are not attending schools because the parents are unable ensure their safety due to the SLA shelling.
The full text of the letter: As a result of the aerial attack and shelling by the SLA and the SLAF in Mutur east in Trincomalee on 24 April, 26 April, 15 June and 16 June 2006 the area has been badly affected. Many people of this area have displaced due to the pervasive sense of fear. Due to the frequent shelling by SLA into this area school children are not attending schools. Therefore, please do whatever is necessary to ensure the children’s safety so that they can continue with their education.
