
Mullaitivu fishermen attacked by SL Navy
Mullaitivu fishermen were attacked by the Sri Lankan Navy (SLN) on Thursday, 27 July around 6.30 am. The SLN dvora boats approached the fishermen at sea and began to attack them. Fishermen in ten boats escaped back to the shore. Fisherman Soosaipillai Thevathas’ (51) boat was destroyed in the attack, which he narrowly escaped. He was a survivor of the tsunami and had received the boat as part of a tsunami rehabilitation project. Mullaitivu Fisheries Society stated that fishing nets worth Rs. 300,000 were lost.
Complaints were lodged with the SLMM office in Vavuniya.
