Activities of GoSL operated forces 11 to 15 August

Batticaloa: H Puyalavan (22) was shot and killed by GoSL operated forces in Poonochumunai on Monday, 14 August around 12.00 pm. Puyalavan is from Kallady.

Batticaloa: Kanthasamy Thiruvesvaran (28), a fisherman, was found dead near a lagoon in Oddamavadi on Tuesday, 15 August around 2.00 pm. Thiruvesvaran, a father of two children, disappeared after he left for fishing on 13 August. He was found stabbed to death two days later.

Batticaloa: GoSL operated forces who came in a white van abducted 20 Tamil civilians, some teenagers, on Tuesday, 15 August from several villages. Residents said that the civilians were outside with friends near the Vishnu temple in Eravur. Parents of five of the abducted civilians lodged complaints. Five of the 20 abducted are Giritharan Sulojan (22), Sinnathurai Siventhran (15), Ilayathamby Raveendran (18), and Ramalingam Vethanayagam (36) and Krishnapillai Sivamoorthy (17).

Batticaloa: M Mathavarajah (22), C Vinayagamoorthy (23) and V Vadivel (23) were shot dead by Sri Lankan army (SLA) during a cordon and search operation in Alayadivembu on Wednesday, 16 August around 2.30 pm.

Jaffna: Sathasivam Baskaran (44), a delivery agent for the Tamil daily, Uthayan, was shot dead by the Sri Lankan army (SLA) at Puthur junction in Atchchuveli on Tuesday, 15 August around 11.00 am. Baskaran had finished delivering newspapers during non-curfew hours when the SLA opened fire at the Uthayan vehicle, killing Baskaran.

Jaffna: A half-burnt dead body was found by the Jaffna Magistrate R K Viknarajah in Kokkuvil on Tuesday, 15 August in front of the former Cultural Wing of the LTTE. Residents stated they heard gunshots and then saw something burning on the middle of the road the night before and the body was discovered the next day. Residents stated the type of killing was once frequently done by Sri Lankan armed forces during times of war.

Jaffna: Two medical students of Jaffna University were shot and killed by the GoSL operated forces on Tuesday, 15 August around 12.30 pm near their hostel on campus. Sivasankar was a final year medical student and Theepan was awaiting graduation. The two friends were walking towards their hostel when the gunmen shot them dead.

Jaffna: The Sri Lankan army (SLA) is preventing the injured civilians from getting medical attention in Thenmaradchchi. The Government Agent’s attempts to send civilians to hospitals have been stopped by the SLA. The SLA has also refused permission for civilians in Nagarkovil, Muhamalai, Kilaly, Kachchai and Kodikamam to seek medical attention.

Amparai: Saravanamuththu Santhiravathanan (16) was abducted in Ninthavur on Friday, 11 August. He was abducted outside of the rice mill where he worked.
