
Jaffna shooting and abductions of civilians continue
Shot and killed.
Pancharatnam Pranavan (24) of Thirunelveli Jaffna was shot and killed by two unidentified men on motorbikes around 2.00 pm on Monday.
Pranavan received a call on his mobile phone asking him to meet them in town. Pranavan left his home in Adiyapatham road in Thirunelveli and was traveling on this road. He was shot by two people on a motorbike in front of the video hiring outlet, Kalaiyaham, on the same road. He died on the spot. His body was taken to the Jaffna teaching hospital for postmortem. Abduction Hamilton Mariyaseelan (29) was abducted from his home at night on Monday. Unidentified persons holding guns and their faces covered with black clothes entered the home of Mariyaseelan in Vaddappulam in Ilavalai in Jaffna on Monday night while the occupants were asleep. They demanded that they need to search the home and asked all the occupants to stand outside. When the gunmen saw Mariyaseelan, they said that they actually came looking for him and abducted him. When Mariyaseelan’s wife screamed they threatened her not to shout. They also told her that he will be released after an inquiry. Next morning, Mariyaseelan’s family went to all the Sri Lankan military camps nearby and the police station. The family was told that they did not arrest anyone by that name. Mariyaseelan is the father of two young children. Mariyaseelan’s wife lodged a complaint with the Sri Lanka Human Rights Commission branch in Jaffna. Shot and injured Iyathurai Sujeevan (24) of Mirusuvil in Jaffna was shot and seriously injured on Monday in front of the printing press office in Kodikamam in Jaffna where Sujeevan works. Two men on motorbike called Sujeevan to come out and talk. When Sujeevan came out they shot him and escaped. Sujeevan was taken to the hospital and he was admitted there for treatment.
