
LTTE counter-attack against SLA in Mavilaru region
The LTTE counter-attacked and stopped the Sri Lankan Army (SLA) from advancing into LTTE areas of the Mavilaru region. The SLA advanced in three different fronts toward the Mavilaru region on Monday, 31 July beginning at 8.30 am. During the attacks, the SLA carried out air strikes, along with multi-barrel rocket launchers, artillery fire and mortar shelling.
 One SLA troop advanced towards the LTTE area of Ankodai and was thwarted by the LTTE in Valkottu. A second SLA troop was thwarted as they were advancing toward the LTTE area of Eachchilampattu. A third SLA troop was successfully counter-attacked in jungle areas of Mavilaru. More than 15 SLA soldiers, including two SLA officials, were killed in the attack. Three LTTE members were killed during the SLA-initiated attack. In another incident later in the Serunuwara area, 18 SLA soldiers were killed in a claymore attack while they were traveling in a bus.
