
SLA claymore hits civilian lorry
A Madhu Multi-Purpose Co-operative Society (MPCS) lorry that was transporting materials for a UNDP project was hit by a claymore mine planted by the Sri Lankan army’s (SLA) Deep Penetration Unit on Wednesday, 26 July around 11.30 am. The claymore explosion took place in the LTTE area of Pannichchankulam, Mannar.
Sakayanathan Lambert (44), the driver of the lorry, and Annasamy Sebastiampillai (48), the lorry attendant were injured. The lorry was transporting materials for a rice mill being built in Sinnavalayankaddu. The construction of the mill is funded by UNDP. Since the beginning of June the SLA’s DPU has carried out 13 attacks in LTTE areas which killed 21 people.
