Peace talks and artillery shelling case of schizophrenia
Since the two parties left for Geneva to hold direct talks on 25 October, one would expect the Forward Defense Lines (FDL) to be quiet. In particular one would expect the civilians already harassed endlessly by the SLA to be left alone with their struggle for survival. Reality, ignored by everyone, is very different.
There was mortar firing by the SLA from the Muhamalai FDL on 24th night and 25th morning. Vaharai area has seen intermittent shelling from the Mankerni camp ever since the delegations left for Geneva. One LTTE auxiliary member died in this shelling in Vaharai on 26 October. Time schedule:
- October 24, AM A section of the GoSL delegation leaves Colombo for Geneva.
- October 24, AM LTTE delegation leaves for Kilinochchi
- October 24 PM SLA fires mortar shells at the Muhamalai FDL
- October 24 PM SLA continues with its artillery and multi-barrel fire from Mankerni
- October 25, AM SLA firing at Muhamai restarts.
