
“Ensure a peaceful environment for talks to begin”
-Tamilselvan to Norwegian and Swiss Ambassadors
Reiterating the understanding reached between the Norwegian delegation and the Tamil National Leader in the last meeting on 25 Jan 2006, Mr.S.P.Tamilselvan, Head of the Political Wing told the Norwegian and Swiss Ambassadors that bringing about an attitudinal change in Colombo vis-à-vis military violence against civilians in occupied areas is very vital in the present context.
 The Ambassadors arrived in Kilinochchi by helicopter today 9 February 2006 and had a meeting with Mr.Tamilselvan today 9 February 2006 at the Peace Secretariat in Kilinochchi discussing preliminaries including logistics related to the meeting in Geneva between the LTTE and GoSL on effective implementation of the Cease Fire Agreement (CFA). Mr.Tamilselvan thanked the Swiss Ambassador and conveyed Tamil peoples’ and the Leadership’s appreciation of the government of Switzerland and its people for the offer of assistance in hosting the important meeting between the parties to the CFA. He also thanked the government of Norway for the sincere hard work put into this exercise and making this a reality. Referring to the state of fear in which the Tamil people live in military occupied areas with special mention of the abduction of humanitarian workers at Welikanda and fishermen at Mullaittivu by the SL Navy, Mr.Tamilselvan expressed concern over government apathy over these violations at a time the parties need to strive creating a positive and conducive atmosphere for the talks in Geneva to deliver. He made a plea to the international community to ensure that calm returns to the Tamil people, the real stake -holders in the entire process. Associated with Mr.Tamilselvan in the meeting was Mr.P.Nadesan, Head of Tamil Eelam Police, Col.Jeyam, Secretary General LTTE Peace Secretariat Mr.S.Pulidevan and Mr.Ilanthirayan.
