Paramilitary violence unabatedThreats to civiliansA mother from Karappalai in Batticaloa, Sivarasa Selvakumari (40), was forcefully sent to the LTTE controlled area by Karuna group. She was told to go and bring two of her sons who were working as labourers in the LTTE controlled areas. Mohan (20) and Vijaykanth (17) are the two sons of Selvakumari who are working in the LTTE controlled area. The mother was threatened that her 14 year old son Vasan will be abducted unless she brings her two older sons and surrenders them to the Karuna group. Paramilitaries threw grenades at businessmen in Vavuniya On Thursday night members of Karuna Group threw grenades at two Vavuniya businessmen. The attack took place in a lodge in Soosaipillaiyarkulam at 8:30 pm. A car parked in front of the lodge was completely destroyed as a result. At another similar attack at 10:30 pm in Vairavarpuliyankulam area. The residents of the owner of a software manufacturing company was attacked. Both businessmen were attacked because they refused to pay protection money demanded by the Karuna Group. 19 March 2006
