Jaffna hartal protests SLA desecration of Hero’s Cemeteries
A hartal in Jaffna was observed on Saturday, 24 June protesting the desecration of several Hero’s Cemeteries and memorials in Jaffna by the GoSL operated forces. The Hero’s Cemeteries and memorials located in Kopay, Nallur, Kodikammam, Vadamarachchi and Velanai, were set on fire and smashed by the GoSL operated forces.
The universal principle of respecting the dead has been totally defied by the these vandals in the GoSL operated forces. Residents have expressed shock at the ongoing practice of damaging Hero’s Cemeteries and memorials.

The Sri Lankan army has denied involvement in the burning of these memorials and blamed the fires on electrical sparks. 
Military spokesperson Brigadier Prasath Samarasinghe also said that the hartal by the people of Jaffna was a failure.
