SLA attacks LTTE controlled areas

Following the Claymore mine explosion in Kebitigollawe, SLA and SL Air Forces bombed several areas in the NorthEast on 15th, 16th June 2006.

On June 15, SLA fired multi barrel artilleries to Mutur area in Trincomalee forcing people to flee. Mr. Elilan, Trincomalee district Political Head made a complaint on this artillery attack to the SLMM.

On 15 June, around 11.30 am, SLAF Kfir jets bombed Mullaitivu area. The bombs targeted the Tsunami refugee camp at Selvapuram in Mullaitivu. More than 300 families are settled in this camp. People in the refugee camps displaced immediately in fear. Six bombs were dropped.

On 15 June, Kfir jets also dropped more than four bombs in Tharavai and Pulipaynthakal area in Batticaloa. Mortar shells were also fired from Vavunathivu SLA camp towards these LTTE controlled areas.

On 15 June, SLAF Kfir jets dropped more than 12 bombs in Kilinochchi suburbs 6.30 pm. There were no casualties reported.

On 16 June, at 6.30 am, Kfir jets bombed Kilinochchi suburbs. People are frightened and could be seen scanning the skies constantly.

Reuters reported that aid workers scurried into bunkers to take shelter.
