Norwegian special envoy Jon Hanssen-Bauer meets with TamilselvanNorwegian special envoy Jon Hanssen Bauer and LTTE Political Head, S P Tamilselvan held a meeting today in Kilinochchi.Tamilselvan again reiterated to the Norwegian special envoy the extremely grave situation in which Tamil people, especially those in the Jaffna peninsula have been placed by the government of Sri Lanka. Killing, disappearance, closure of the A9 road leading to lack of very basic food items including milk powder for babies is the reality in Jaffna. On top of it, GoSL is carrying out air raids on civilian areas with impunity, Tamilselvan told the special envoy.
The proposed direct talks between the parties in Geneva was also discussed at today’s meeting. Speaking to the press after the meeting Tamilselvan said, in response to a question about the security of the LTTE delegation, that the delegation will be going only on the guarantees given by the international community. He also said that the travel arrangements and the agenda for the talks will be decided only in the coming days. 19 October 2006
