Vavuniya injured students point their fingers at the Sri Lankan military
The ten injured students and their classmates unmistakably pointed their fingers at the Sri Lankan military that entered their school, ordered the students lying on the ground to get up and then shot them dead.
The resident students of the agricultural school in Thandikulam in Vavuniya recounted their experiences to the media clearly identifying the Sri Lankan military for the killing of their friends. The military entered the agricultural school immediately after a claymore exploded in front of the school targeting a military vehicle. Hearing the blast all the students lied down on the ground where they were clearing the yard. One student began crying while describing how his friend Achchuthan was ordered to get up and walk towards the army and then was shot dead by the Sri Lankan military. Another girl described how she just managed to escape death at the hands of the Sri Lankan military because she shouted in Sinhala not to shoot her. Another student said that the staff at the school was beaten by the Sri Lankan military. Speaking to the BBC, Sri Lanka’s Minsiter of Defense, Keheliya Rambukwella, expressing regret at the death of the students, justified the conduct of the military saying that when the military is attacked it cannot keep its guns down.
